In the famous street of Lygon in the suburb of Carlton, is a not so little cafe called Brunetti. If you are hungry then this is a dangerous place to enter, when you walk in you are treated with so many sweets and cakes, it makes it so hard to make a decision!

The cafe is actually located at a couple of different locations around Melbourne but the one located at 380 Lygon St, Carlton, Vic 3053 is the original store. From their website it says that it was first opened up way back 1985 but the current owners acquired it in 1991 and have taken it from strength to strength. The cafe has a huge selection of sweets and also serves Italian coffee. There is also a cafe menu which has a selections of pasta’s and pizza and a bar for those who would like an adult beverage.

I went with my father on a Friday afternoon at about 2.30pm and it was relatively quiet however this place can get busy. It uses a number system so they know who to serve next. Just take a ticketed number and wait for it to be called.

The cafe itself has lots of seating both inside and out but like I said in the previous paragraph, it does get busy so maybe you may want to do a take-away.

But the main feature is the sweets on display. Pretty much whatever you want I’m pretty sure they’ll have it from vanilla slices to eclairs plus custard tarts and many many more.

On my visit I had a chocolate toped eclair with a white chocolate and cream filling, it was AMAZING! No really it was so good. I could of eaten 3 of them but my stomach would of been very upset with me. To help wash it down I had a spiced chai latte with soy milk (the only time I will have soy milk). My dad had apple strudel with cream and a cafe latte in a mug.

Both of us were extremely satisfied and can not wait to go back for some more. I know that if I went everyday for a month, I could have a different sweet everyday. If I didn’t have to work I would have taken that challenge 😉

So in summary if you would like a cafe to sample some fantastic sweets and cakes then head over to Brunetti where you can relax with a coffee or two and enjoy the atmosphere and eat more sweets then what your doctor recommends.

If you are wanting something else to do nearby, how about checking out the Melbourne Museum. You can visit my post on it here.
